This is an interesting booth at the vendor fair. I was going around asking permission to take pictures, and the lady at this booth was VERY enthusiastic in helping me out, to the point of offering to move thigns around and giving me suggestions on how to take them. I found her booth one of the most interesting as it looks like a collection of past knick knacks, an area where time has forgotten but preserved. It's like if you were going through your attic and you happen upon all these great treasures you didn't consider when you first got them.

The booth definitely had the most character to it: the colors, shines, textures, and overall sense of it is just nostalgic.

She wanted me to send her some pictures too. I don't think email would be appropriate, so I might just get them developed and sent to her for the sake of doing so since she went out of her way to help me get some interesting perspectives.

Ishida Ink: Vendor Fair

As I was walking through the vendor fair, I passed by a booth by Ishida Ink. The people attending the booth were, I believe, UCI students, and the artwork they were selling are all spray painted stencils on unconventional materials: wood, canvas, or newspaper.

I think my favorites are the Beatles, Einstein, and Twiggy.

What was exciting was that the people there wanted me to send them the pictures I took. Boy do I feel like a real photographer now. =]

Vendor Fair Spring Quarter 2009

I never realized how colorful and lively the vendor fair is: the fabrics, plastics, colors, and people that booth it. There was as wide a spectrum of things as people, from old to young, different ethnicities and backgrounds: students, alumni, and random vendors. There was even one booth where a mother was changing the diaper of a baby while i was shooting her booth. it was quite intense.

This is a program I am working on at the Center for Service in Action. The purpose of this contest is, simply, because there is a large blank wall in the center that needs something to spice it up with. Hopefully this will encourage more interaction with the service organizations as well as provide them with a venue in which to get their name out, as well as for other people to get a better sense of what the center and the organizations under it does.

I was going for a cut-out, scrapbook type feel with this image, to give it more of a photographic feel. I also thought putting a camera on the image is too corny.

Aminal Experiementation Protest

After taking pictures of the Clothesline Project at UC Irvine, I unexpectedly ran into a protest of people against the use of animals for scientific experiments. On the other end were people for the process of experimenting on animals for research. As you can see, the crowds on each end were rather different.

There were also a number of police officers in the area making sure that the protest stayed peaceful. Or maybe they were curious themselves.

Armenian Genocide

On my way to my SPOP Coord office hours I ran into the Armenian Genocide demonstration. It was essentially a flash mob where everyone just stood there for 5 minutes in complete stillness, holding signs to commemorate and bring attention to the Armenian genocide of 1915.

This is the event held by C.A.R.E. called Take Back the Night. It is to spread awareness about issues of sexual assault and how to combat and prevent it.

Clothesline Project 2009

The Clothesline Project is an exhibit held at UC Irvine by the Campus Assault Resource and Education center, in conjunction with other sponsors such as the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgender Resource Center to increase awareness on sexual assault and to commemorate the courage of the survivors as well as the memories of those who struggled in those times.

The images are provoking, and beautiful in its own solemn way.

WAYZGOOSE 2009 is the campus-wide, open house event in conjunction with Celebrate UCI and UCI Earth Day. I spent the greater part of the day working but was able to walk around and take some pictures. It was definitely a fun event and a great time to just chill and, for lack of a better word, celebrate.

Pause for a Cause is the campaign that spreads awareness on the environmental and health effects of smoking. Cigarette butts are the most littered item in the world, and each butt would take 10 years to biodegrade. I guess one should just be more aware of the situation when given.

The actual flyer is a lot brighter, but this is the original design I made for the campaign at my marketing and publicity internship with the Center for Service in Action.
